Player Mery Demiral announced that a jersey from Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo will be sold at auction, with profits going to relief efforts for the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Syria and Turkey. Demiral's collection includes his personal kits and Ronaldo's jersey from Juventus, and he will auction the piece after speaking with the Saudi Arabian striker.
Demiral wrote on his official Twitter account: "I spoke with Cristiano, and he is very saddened by what happened in Turkey." He continued: "We will auction the signed Ronaldo jersey from my collection, and all proceeds from the auction will be used for the earthquake area." Demiral confirmed that he will do everything he can to help those affected by the natural disaster.
Demiral played alongside Ronaldo at Juventus and now plays for Atalanta. The 24-year-old has participated in 35 international matches for the Turkish national team. It is worth mentioning that the Turkish club Malatya Spor announced on Tuesday the death of their goalkeeper Ahmed Ayub Turk Aslan, who was reported missing. Additionally, Turkish authorities suspended all sports activities in the country until further notice following the devastating earthquake that struck the southeast of the country and neighboring Syria, which has claimed the lives of more than 4,500 people in Turkey.
