Following Army General Michael Eric Kurilla's unexpected visit to Israel, it has been reported that a U.S. military team is currently leading the command and planning for the anticipated air, naval, and ground operations, under the supervision of Marine Corps Deputy Commander James Glynn. Kurilla, the commander of U.S. Central Command, is the latest senior U.S. official to visit Israel ahead of the expected ground assault by the Israeli army on Gaza. The U.S. military is working to bolster its combat capabilities in the region to deter Iran-backed groups from engaging in the conflict amid growing international fears of a broader regional war, according to Reuters. Additionally, the U.S. is rapidly delivering weapons, including air defenses and munitions, to Israel. Kurilla stated to Reuters, which accompanied him on the trip last week, in brief remarks before landing: "I am here to ensure that Israel has what it needs to defend itself with a particular focus on preventing other parties from escalating the conflict."
