The Syrian Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli attack that occurred late Wednesday night, targeting an area near the capital Damascus, resulting in the injury of two soldiers and material damage.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry referred to the missile attack as an attempt by Israel to "escape from internal division." The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in Britain, reported that this is the fifth strike Israel has launched against Syria this month.
A source from the opposition informed Reuters that the strikes targeted a vehicle carrying Iranian-affiliated individuals near a Syrian security building close to Kafr Sousa.
Syrian state media cited a military source early Thursday morning, stating that Israel launched "a number of missiles" from the direction of the Golan Heights, targeting some points around the capital Damascus, which resulted in the injury of two soldiers and "some material losses." The source added that Syrian air defenses intercepted the missiles and "shot down some of them," without specifying the nature of the area that was bombed.
Activists shared a video on social media showing smoke rising in the vicinity of the Midan neighborhood after hearing sounds of bombardment in the skies over Damascus.
On March 22, an Israeli airstrike near Aleppo Airport in northern Syria briefly rendered it out of service. Regional intelligence sources indicated that the attack struck an Iranian weapons depot. On February 19, an Israeli strike hit a building in Kafr Sousa in central Damascus, killing five. At that time, Reuters reported that the strike targeted a facility where Iranian officials were meeting to develop programs to enhance the capabilities of drones or missiles used by Iranian allies in Syria.
