Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stated that the Libyan National Unity Government led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibah has been "illegitimate" since December 24 of last year and "has no right to sign international agreements." In a press conference alongside his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias, Shoukry emphasized that "the Dbeibah government has been illegitimate since December 24, and it has no right to sign international agreements." He added, "The United Nations should clarify its position on the legitimacy of the outgoing Libyan government," continuing, "We confirmed the necessity of holding elections in Libya and supporting the efforts of the Libyan Parliament." Regarding relations with Greece, he mentioned, "We discussed energy security in our regional neighborhood, and we affirm our commitment to the agreement signed between the two countries regarding maritime borders and energy security in the Eastern Mediterranean." For his part, Dendias stated, "The outgoing Libyan National Unity Government does not have the right to conclude agreements for exploration (gas drilling)." The Greek Foreign Minister added, "Cairo and Athens are a bridge over turbulent waters between the Arab world and Europe, and between Africa and Europe."
