The English Football Association announced today, Thursday, that it has doubled the financial prize fund for the Women's FA Cup this season to six million pounds ($7.35 million). This means that the winner of the Women's FA Cup this season will receive £430,000, compared to Chelsea, which received £100,000 when winning the title last season.
Sue Campbell, the FA's director of women's football, stated: "Doubling the monetary value of the prizes demonstrates the FA's clear commitment to the future of the Women's FA Cup and will help us maintain its status as the premier domestic cup competition for women worldwide."
Campbell added, "Ultimately, we want the men's and women's competitions to have equal prize money. This new increase is a positive step towards achieving this ambitious long-term goal." Last year, the financial allocations for the women's prize fund were raised from £400,000 to three million. Currently, the winner of the men's FA Cup receives £2 million.
