Son of Arab President Runs Over Man in Turkey

Turkish media reported on Saturday that the son of the Somali president is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter after he ran over and killed a man riding a motorcycle in Istanbul. He has fled to an unknown location, and an international arrest warrant has been issued for him. This case, condemned particularly by Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, an opponent of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has sparked significant criticism following the release of the suspect, Mohamed Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, without judicial oversight after an initial police report, according to the Cumhuriyet newspaper.

İmamoğlu stated on the "X" platform on Saturday, "The suspect left Turkey unrestrained." He added, "The prevailing mentality that turns a blind eye and allows this escape is unfortunately incapable of defending the rights of its citizens in their own country." According to a police report mentioned by the "Haber" television channel, the president's son, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, struck the motorcycle in broad daylight. The victim, Yunus Emre Gücer, was a father of two. The prosecutor issued an arrest warrant for the driver, but when the police went to the suspect's home on Friday, he was reportedly missing, as stated by the "Haber" channel.
