The office of British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced in a statement following a call with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Wednesday that they discussed the situation in Gaza and the Middle East. Sunak's office stated that the leaders "discussed diplomatic efforts to ensure the release of hostages held by Hamas, prevent escalation in the Middle East, and achieve long-term peace and prosperity for the Palestinian people." The office also noted that Sunak welcomed the opening of the Rafah crossing to allow British nationals and other foreign citizens, as well as injured Palestinians, to leave Gaza.
