Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati emphasized the efforts of the Lebanese customs to monitor everything that can be monitored at Beirut Airport, stating: "Lebanon cannot be a transit point or an exporter of any illicit goods." He mentioned that they are striving to ensure the airport is a bright representation of Lebanon, referring to the German grant which includes a scanner.
Mikati promised foreign countries that "the airport will be safe," noting that "the monitoring rate for luggage has increased and surveillance cameras monitor any movements occurring at the airport." After touring the airport, Mikati thanked "everyone who contributed donations to Beirut Airport and the Irada Association, which helped light the airport tunnel," and appreciated the security forces overseeing the airport, stating: "Our aim is for the airport to be the bright image of Lebanon."
For his part, Minister of Public Works and Transportation in the caretaker government, Ali Hamieh, stated: "The issue of exporting goods and passenger bags is a priority because we must give significant importance to the exporter at the airport." He added: "We will begin a work project to change the airport's carpet, and funding has been secured to light the airport tunnel with solar energy."
