Earthquake of Magnitude 4.1 Hits Romania

The Romanian National Institute for Earth Physics reported that "earthquakes of magnitude 4.1 were recorded this morning, Sunday, in the eastern part of the country." In a statement, the institute noted, "At 07:20:06 on July 30, earthquakes of magnitude 4.1 were recorded in the Franchia seismic area. The earthquake's epicenter was at a depth of 123.1 km." There have been no reports of damage or injuries as a result of this earthquake. The Franchia County is located in the bend of the Central Carpathian Mountains and is the most seismically active area in Romania. In 1977, an earthquake with a magnitude of 8 occurred in this region, reaching approximately 7.5 in intensity, resulting in the deaths of about 1,500 people.
