UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan continued his intensive communications with leaders from Arab and foreign countries to stop the violence and escalation occurring in the Gaza Strip. He is rallying international efforts to ensure respect for international humanitarian law and to provide protection for civilians, shielding them from the worsening suffering resulting from alarming developments on the ground.
The communications made by bin Zayed included discussions with Jordan's King Abdullah II, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
During these talks, bin Zayed emphasized the priority of preserving civilian lives and preventing their involvement in the cycle of violence and escalating conflict. He called for the legal responsibilities to protect them, particularly children, women, and the elderly during conflicts, and for the release of hostages held.
He stressed the "necessity of opening urgent humanitarian corridors to transfer medical and relief aid to Gaza without obstacles and facilitating the mechanisms needed to ensure the necessary protection for these corridors, enabling relevant humanitarian organizations to carry out their responsibilities." This is to ensure that the suffering experienced in the region does not worsen, particularly as over two million people, the vast majority of whom are innocent civilians not engaged in the ongoing conflict, are present in the area.
The communications also addressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts aimed at containing the situation and seeking avenues for calm to prevent further escalation of violence and tension, given the serious implications for regional and international stability and peace.
