National Anti-Corruption Authority Meets with IMF Delegation

The National Anti-Corruption Authority, headed by Judge Claude Karam and attended by authority members Judge Therese Alawi and Dr. Joe Maalouf, met with the International Monetary Fund delegation led by Ms. Tina Berjaliani this afternoon at its headquarters in Verdun - Bristol. The meeting included participation from a senior staff member of the Fund from Washington.

During the meeting, they discussed the current stage of establishing the authority and the obstacles that hinder its operations. Berjaliani presented her preliminary diagnosis of the situation in Lebanon and raised several inquiries regarding the authority’s tasks and priorities for this year.

She confirmed that the purpose of her visit to the authority is part of her evaluative project on the governance of the authority, as part of her comprehensive study of the situation in Lebanon. This work is being conducted in cooperation with various authorities and independent institutions such as the Central Bank, the National Anti-Corruption Authority, members of the judiciary, and civil society to understand the situation in preparation for the final report and recommendations to be submitted to the Lebanese government, which has promised to publish it. She hopes this work will contribute to strengthening governance and combating corruption in Lebanon.
