Drawings of a Russian Girl Turn Family's Life to Nothing

In the Russian city of Yefremov, located 320 kilometers south of Moscow, there exists a completely different image of the Russian war on Ukraine. A girl there chose to express the Russian-Ukrainian war in her own way, as she drew the Ukrainian flag inscribed with "Glory to Ukraine," and to the right of the painting, she illustrated the three colors of the Russian flag with the words "No to War." At the top of the image, where missiles coming from Russia head towards Ukraine, a mother and her daughter stand together defiantly to express their rejection of the war.

The painting was created in April 2022 by 12-year-old Masha Moskalev. It was followed by a flood of accusations, as her father was fined approximately $415 for "discrediting the Russian armed forces" after they found an anti-war post about Ukraine on one of his social media pages. The girl Masha was not seen in public, while her father remained under house arrest in Yefremov. As for his daughter Masha, she was sent to a children's home and he was not allowed to speak with her on the phone.
