The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that approximately 180 buildings caught fire in a single day due to the outbreak of six fires in the Sverdlovsk region, specifically in the city of Yekaterinburg. Uncontrollable forest fires have started in Russia, spreading to residential areas and entire villages. In the Sverdlovsk region alone, 30 houses were destroyed as a result of blazes that reached the villages of Tayozhny and Sosva.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, crews managed to save more than 1,200 residential buildings from the fires in the Tayozhny and Sosva areas; however, the fires caused the destruction of 178 buildings, including 134 residential structures. The report indicated that "32 non-residential buildings, 8 rural houses, 2 annexes, a storage facility, and the roof of one multi-apartment residential building also burned."
Additionally, the Russian Investigative Committee reported that "an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the six fires, and a legal assessment will be made of the actions of those responsible for the fires."
