Chelsea announced today, Tuesday, that midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has undergone surgery after suffering a knee injury during the 3-1 defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League last Sunday. Chukwuemeka scored the equalizer before having to leave the match in the first half at London Stadium, where Chelsea lost 3-1 to West Ham. Chelsea stated in a release: "Carney has had surgery and will now begin his recovery. The 19-year-old player will work with the club's medical department on his rehabilitation at Cobham (Chelsea's training ground)." For his part, Chukwuemeka said: "From joy to pain in a matter of minutes, my first goal with Chelsea. A moment I prayed for and dreamed of since I was a child." He added: "A minor setback but I will come back stronger than ever. Thank you to the Chelsea fans for your love and support. See you soon." Chelsea signed the England youth international from Aston Villa on a six-year contract earlier this month.
