The Belgian public prosecutor's office stated today, Tuesday, that "Belgian and Moroccan police have arrested a suspect in Morocco in a case of extortion that led to the closure of schools in Belgium due to bomb threats." The prosecutor's office said in a statement: "The arrested individual, who is of Moroccan nationality, has been interrogated and has confessed to his actions to Moroccan authorities. Initial investigation results do not indicate terrorist motives."
The office added: "It continues to investigate in cooperation with Moroccan authorities to understand the suspect's motives." Authorities reopened the schools today, Tuesday. Belgian media reported that "the sender of the alert demanded 10 million euros to reveal the location of five bombs." The education administration of Wallonia-Brussels closed at least 27 schools in Brussels and the neighboring Brabant area on Monday after the bomb threat was issued on Sunday evening.
