US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced on Friday that a draft resolution proposed by Algeria to the Security Council could jeopardize "sensitive negotiations" aimed at mediating a ceasefire in Gaza. Algeria presented the draft to the 15-member council on Wednesday, which calls for a humanitarian ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. Thomas-Greenfield told reporters that "this draft resolution could endanger sensitive negotiations, thereby hindering the painstaking and ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure the release of hostages and achieve a long-term truce that is urgently needed by Palestinian civilians and relief workers."
