Paris Saint-Germain Approves Player's Participation in Asian Games

The Korea Football Association announced on Friday that Paris Saint-Germain has agreed to allow midfielder Lee Kang-in to join the national team during the group stage of the Asian Games. It stated that it "reached an agreement with the French league champions late Thursday to allow Lee to leave after PSG's first match in the UEFA Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, which is scheduled for next Tuesday." Clubs are not obligated to release their players for the Asian Games since the event falls outside the official FIFA window.

The Asian Games, which were postponed from 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will kick off on September 23 and run until October 8 in Hangzhou, China. The men's football tournament starts on September 19, with South Korea beginning its campaign against Kuwait in hopes of winning the gold medal for the third consecutive time. They will also face Thailand and Bahrain in Group E.

Lee (22 years old) joined PSG from Real Mallorca last July and started in the first two matches of the French league before being sidelined by a muscle injury since August 22. He is expected to be available for South Korea's third match in the group stage.
