European Commission Proposes New Sanctions Package Against Russia

The European Commission indicated today, Wednesday, that it will present "the draft of the twelfth sanctions package against Russia, which includes measures against the military and entities in the IT sector associated with the country, to the European Council." The Commission mentioned that its proposal aims to "impose sanctions on more than 120 additional individuals and entities for their role in undermining Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

In turn, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated: "The EU's twelfth sanctions package against Russia is part of a 'fierce war' waged by the West against the country." Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said, "Due to the ongoing sanctions without end against Russia, the European Union has become Washington's 'useful idiot'." She added, "The United States uses Europe as a 'stick,' in what she described as Washington's anti-Russia policy." She pointed out that "the new EU sanctions will achieve nothing," further stating that the West's sanctions have harmed the EU itself.
