Former Speaker of the Parliament Hussein Al-Husseini passed away in the hospital after suffering a health crisis this morning, at the age of 86. In this regard, caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati stated that "Lebanon has lost today a prominent national and constitutional figure, and with his absence, a bright chapter in the history of political and parliamentary work is closed." He noted that "his presence marked a significant milestone in the history of parliamentary work in Lebanon, shaping legislative practices with fundamental steps over many years. His pioneering role during the 'Taif Agreement' conference played a significant part in the approval of the 'National Accord Document,' which ended the Lebanese war. He also knew how to secure Lebanese balances at the heart of constitutional reforms that would guarantee stability in Lebanon, had they been fully implemented and completed." Mikati expressed that "with the absence of President Hussein Al-Husseini, I and our family lose a brother and a friend who was always a good advisor and follower, and I was proud and honored by what he said with humility and the advice he offered, as he possessed a wealth of political and national experience." He addressed him by saying, "Mr. President, we bid you farewell today, but you will always remain in our consciousness and in our national memory, a statesman par excellence, whose passing was not ordinary but left indelible marks that history will record with appreciation and pride."
