TikTok announced on Thursday that a hashtag expressing support for Israel in its war against the Palestinian Hamas garnered more views than a pro-Palestine hashtag, thus refuting accusations that it promotes pro-Palestinian content. TikTok stated in a post that U.S. views for the hashtag "Support Israel" reached 46 million from October 7 to 31, compared to 29 million for the hashtag "Support Palestine" during the same period. The company added, "Over the past few days, there has been an incorrect analysis of TikTok's hashtag data regarding the conflict, leading some commentators to erroneously suggest that TikTok promotes pro-Palestinian content at the expense of pro-Israel content to users in the United States." The app, owned by Chinese technology company ByteDance, also mentioned that it has removed 24 million fake accounts. Reuters previously reported that false claims about the conflict had spread on social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and TikTok.
