In a press conference held on behalf of the Progressive Socialist Party, MP Akram Shehab called for "an end to the link between morning and afternoon education, especially since the funds allocated for afternoon education are still available." He asked, "Is it a deliberate policy of starvation for about 40,000 teachers in basic, secondary, and vocational education and their families?"
He stated, "As long as all donor entities refuse to fulfill their promises to the Minister of Education, why doesn't the government stop this draining process and allocate some of the electricity dollars to the education sector and support the teachers without expecting anything in return?"
He emphasized that "the responsibility of preserving public education is a national responsibility that everyone must share, not just the Minister of Education. However, since he oversees the sector, solutions must start from his ministry, leading to a government session where teachers can be given the support that can be provided, and if necessary, a parliamentary session should be arranged."
He urged "the government, parliamentary blocs, political forces, and donor countries to fulfill their duties as quickly as possible to preserve public and university education. Otherwise, let us mourn for the future of Lebanon and its generations." He reiterated the call for "a government session on education that may be as crucial as a session on medications for chronic diseases and may even be more significant than the electricity file."
