The Iraqi airline "Fly Baghdad" condemned on Monday the sanctions imposed by the United States, stating that they "are not based on any material or moral evidence." In a statement, it announced that it "will resort to legal means to claim financial and moral compensation, as it is clear that the decision was based on misleading and untrue information that cannot withstand legal scrutiny."
The U.S. Treasury Department's website indicated that "the United States issued new sanctions on Monday targeting individuals linked to the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and an individual associated with the Iraqi airline Fly Baghdad."
In this context, the UK also imposed new sanctions on "individuals connected to the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), including a leader of the movement, under the British (International) Terrorism Sanctions regime." A government memo revealed that these measures also include sanctions against an official in the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement.
