The French Ministry of Agriculture announced today, Tuesday, that "France has detected an outbreak of the highly contagious bird flu virus in a turkey farm in the northwest of the country, amid a seasonal infection wave across Europe." The ministry stated in a statement: "The outbreak in the Brittany region occurred near where a wild bird infected with the virus was found, and this outbreak is the first case recorded on a farm in France this fall." It added, "Several cases of infection among wild birds have been recorded in recent days," indicating that "the government has raised the local alert level for bird flu from 'none' to 'medium.'" The ministry noted that "poultry in areas that are particularly prone to interactions with wild birds should now be moved to enclosed spaces."
