The English Premier League announced today, Friday, that the "2024-2025 season will kick off on August 17, which is 90 days after the end of the current season." The new season will begin just over a month after the Euro Championship final on July 14. The final round of the upcoming season will take place on May 25, 2025, and there will be no matches on Christmas Eve following strong reactions this season. The league stated in a press release: "In line with our previous commitments to clubs to address the congested schedule during Christmas and the New Year, arrangements will be made to allow for more rest time during three rounds in the Christmas period, with no club playing within 60 hours of another match." It added: "There will be no matches on December 24, 2024." Chelsea will visit Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, and the club's coach, Mauricio Pochettino, was among those who expressed frustration about playing on Christmas Eve.
