The Panama Canal Authority stated today, Thursday, that the canal has not experienced a noticeable increase in navigation due to the situation in the Red Sea, where attacks by the Houthi group in Yemen are forcing ships to alter their routes. The attacks have affected shipping traffic in the Suez Canal, through which 12 percent of global trade passes, and may ultimately force some ship owners to attempt to transit through the Panama Canal, which has imposed transit restrictions for months due to severe drought conditions.
