Some of Hollywood's wealthiest and most famous stars, from George Clooney to Meryl Streep, have donated $1 million or more each to support American actors currently on strike in Hollywood, as announced by the union solidarity fund. Following the protest movement initiated by screenwriters in early May, actors began their strike in mid-July, demanding better wages and guarantees regarding the use of artificial intelligence. With this unprecedented dual social movement since 1960, nearly all films and television series in the United States have come to a halt. In addition to George Clooney and Meryl Streep, about 10 other celebrities, including Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson, Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts, and Oprah Winfrey, contributed $1 million or more to the union support fund.
