Barcelona announced today, Wednesday, the departure of its veteran star Sergio Busquets at the end of the current season. Busquets' contract with Barcelona ends on June 30th, and no agreement has been reached regarding an extension.
According to "Mundo Deportivo," Busquets has decided not to join any European team, as he does not want to face Barcelona, similar to what Xavi and Andrés Iniesta did. There are two options available for Busquets: moving to the Saudi league or playing in the United States with Inter Miami.
Busquets thanked in a statement on his Instagram account, all "the people who allowed him to experience all this from day one until the end." He expressed gratitude to the club's workers, physiotherapists, doctors, equipment managers, representatives, coaches, staff, analysts, and above all, his teammates with whom he shared moments of living and playing.
He added, "I also thank the members and fans from all over the world, who supported me and loved me throughout this time, and of course, my family who has always been by my side." He concluded: "Thank you very much for everything... and see you soon in the last matches."
The 35-year-old has won numerous titles with Barcelona, including 8 league titles, 3 UEFA Champions League titles, and 3 FIFA Club World Cups.
