Major stock indices on Wall Street opened higher today, Tuesday, benefiting from the strong gains achieved in recent weeks as investor bets continue on the Federal Reserve's (U.S. central bank) direction toward easing monetary policy next year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose by 5.80 points or 0.02 percent at the open to 37,311.82 points. The S&P 500 opened up by 3.16 points or 0.07 percent to 4,743.72 points. The Nasdaq Composite gained 17.82 points or 0.12 percent to 14,923.02 points at the start of trading.
