A deputy sheriff of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department was shot dead in what officials described as an ambush while he was in a patrol car outside a police station in the city of Palmdale, California. Sheriff Robert Luna referred to the incident, which occurred last night, as a "murder" and a "targeted attack" on his deputy, Ryan Clinkunbroomer, 30, while he was on duty in uniform approximately 90 kilometers northeast of Los Angeles. Police stated that a passerby saw Clinkunbroomer, who was seriously injured around 6 PM, and immediately called for help. He was transported to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. During a press conference held last night, Luna urged the public to provide any video footage that might show what happened.
