Iran Trials Journalists Who Showed Sympathy for Mahsa Amini

The husband of Iranian reporter Niloufar Hamidi tweeted that a revolutionary court in Iran began her trial today, Tuesday, behind closed doors on charges related to her coverage of the funeral of Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini, whose death last year led to months of unrest. Mohammad Hossein Ajourlou, Niloufar's husband, stated that today's trial session "ended in less than two hours and her lawyers did not have the opportunity to defend her, nor were family members allowed to be present in court." He added that his wife "denied all the charges against her and claimed she was fulfilling her duty as a journalist according to the law." Niloufar Hamidi, along with another journalist, Elnaz Mohammadi, who was tried yesterday, faces multiple charges, including "collusion with hostile forces" in the coverage of Mahsa Amini's death. A statement issued by the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence in October accused both journalists of being agents for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.
