The transitional Prime Minister of Niger, Ali Mohamed Al-Amin Zain, held the first regional consultations in Agadez, marking the beginning of what he termed a "comprehensive national dialogue" to determine the length of the transitional period in the country, according to the French news agency "AFP." It was noted that "consultations will take place in eight regions across the country, the first being the city of Agadez in the north, where the U.S. military base is located." The consultations were attended by officers from the National Council for the Salvation of the Homeland, government members, and local and religious leaders. The agency reported that "the discussion topics include, among other things, the duration of the transitional period, as well as the fundamental principles that should govern this period." The head of the transitional government confirmed that "the national dialogue will begin very soon."
