The U.S. military command in Europe, EUCOM, has reported that a U.S. military plane crashed after experiencing an "incident" during training in the eastern Mediterranean. The U.S. military did not specify the type of aircraft or where it was flying, but the United States has a carrier deployed in the region as part of efforts to prevent the war between Israel and Hamas from escalating into a regional conflict. EUCOM stated, "A U.S. military aircraft conducting training operations in the eastern Mediterranean experienced an unfortunate incident and crashed," without providing information about the fate of the crew. They added, "We can definitively say that the flight of the aircraft was solely related to training and there are no indications of hostile activity," noting that "the cause of the training incident is currently under investigation." Washington has quickly moved to provide military support to Israel and has bolstered its forces in the region, including sending the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier and other warships, following Hamas's attack on October 7.
