Attack on Bus in Pakistan Leaves 8 Dead

Pakistani officials reported that "gunmen attacked a bus near the town of Shillas in northern Pakistan today, resulting in the deaths of eight passengers and injuring at least 15." Muhammad Ali Johar, a spokesperson for the local government in the area, noted that "the gunmen opened fire on the bus this evening and the wounded were transported to a nearby hospital." No group has yet claimed responsibility for this attack, and the motives remain unclear. Shillas is located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, near Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where attacks have been increasing for years. The Pakistani Taliban has previously claimed responsibility for some of these attacks. Shillas is a well-known tourist destination and is situated near a China-supported dam under construction.
