The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on Wednesday that Norway has joined the Member States Support Program for nuclear verification, working closely with the agency to take advantage of opportunities in the field of nuclear safeguards and the peaceful use of nuclear materials, while helping the agency address challenges and maintain the highest standards of international nuclear safeguards. The agency stated, "Its programs provide support to member states in various forms, including knowledge exchange, technology transfer, expert cooperation, financial support, and assisting countries in staying at the forefront of nuclear technology developments." Massimo Aparo, Deputy Director General of the IAEA and Head of the Safeguards Department, explained that "the agency's programs support member states in the area of nuclear verification and are among the primary means to help member states enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the agency's safeguards and provide the international community with assurances regarding the peaceful use of nuclear materials, as well as assisting the agency in its mission to verify the peaceful use of nuclear materials worldwide."
