The Chinese Taiwan Affairs Office indicated today, Saturday, that "the victory of Lai Ching-te, the candidate of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party in Taiwan, in the island-wide elections will not alter the fundamental shape of cross-strait relations." In a statement reported by the Xinhua News Agency, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Chen Bin-hua, stated: "The results have shown that the Democratic Progressive Party cannot represent the dominant public opinion on the island."
