Russia Prepares Legislation to Confiscate Property of Those Spreading "False Information" About the Military

The Speaker of the Russian State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, stated today that lawmakers have prepared a draft law allowing for the confiscation of funds and property from individuals who intentionally disseminate "false information" about the Russian armed forces. He pointed out that the measure will also apply to those convicted of what he described as other forms of treason, including "defaming" the armed forces, calling for sanctions against Russia, or inciting extremist actions. Volodin added, "Anyone who tries to destroy Russia and betrays it must face the deserved punishment and compensate for the damage caused to the country from their personal property." He noted that the draft law will be presented to the State Duma on Monday.
