Israeli UN Envoy: Attacks on Israelis in Gaza are War Crimes

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, accused the Islamic resistance movement (Hamas) of committing war crimes on Sunday and vowed that the time has come to "erase" the military infrastructure of the movement while seeking to maintain normalization talks with Saudi Arabia. Erdan told reporters before a closed meeting of the UN Security Council, which includes 15 member states: "These are war crimes, blatant and documented war crimes." He stated, "The era of using reason and logic in dealing with these savages is over." He added, "Now is the time to erase the terrorist infrastructure of Hamas, completely erase it, so that such horrors are never repeated."

Meanwhile, the Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour, noted before the Security Council meeting that "Israel continues to claim that the blockade and repeated attacks on Gaza aim to destroy Hamas's military capabilities and ensure security. Its blockade and attacks have achieved none of these goals." He added, "When Israel is now trying to justify another attack with the same false premise, no one should say or do anything to encourage it to go down this path."
