Tension in Labweh Following Army Gunfire at Car and Young Man's Death

The young man N.A.R. died after refusing to comply with soldiers' request to check his "Picanto" car at a military checkpoint at the entrance of the town of Labweh in northern Bekaa. According to details reported by the newspaper "An-Nahar," the young man attempted to quickly bypass the checkpoint accompanied by three companions from the Al-Mawla and Amehz families. The soldiers initially fired warning shots, but he did not stop. The army continued to fire to halt him, and he was ultimately injured and transported to Al-Asi Hospital in Hermel, where he soon died.

Tension erupted following the news of his death and the detention of his companions. Residents gathered at the town intersection, deliberately closing the international road in both directions and damaging passing vehicles. Army units arrived to attempt to calm the situation, and investigations were initiated to uncover the circumstances of the incident. This comes as a result of all Lebanese army checkpoints in the region stopping all "Picanto" cars, particularly in northern Bekaa, due to the phenomenon of their frequent theft and smuggling from the border area into Syria.
