A local community spokesman reported that at least 30 people were killed and several others injured in attacks in Plateau State, central Nigeria, in a series of assaults around the town of Mangu despite a curfew imposed by the state government. Conflicts between farmers and herders, as well as sectarian violence, are common in central Nigeria, a remote area known as the "middle belt," where a cycle of violence has claimed hundreds of lives in recent years. The latest violence occurred yesterday, Wednesday, following an attack in December that left at least 140 people dead. On January 23, a curfew was imposed from dusk until dawn. A spokesman for the Plateau State police did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the attacks that took place over two days.
