Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib stated today, Friday, that her country has summoned the Israeli ambassador following the bombing of a building used by the Belgian Development Agency in Gaza City, adding that Belgium intends to raise the issue of compensation. The minister wrote on X social media platform, "Attacks on civilian infrastructure violate the principles of international humanitarian law. All parties must comply with it." The Belgian Ministry of Development Cooperation mentioned that it is not aware of any civilian casualties and that the building, which the development agency shared with Handicap International, was supposed to be empty at the time of the bombing. It added, "Belgium will bring the issue of compensation for damage to infrastructure of projects funded by the European Union and its member states to the agenda of the upcoming European consultations." A ministry spokesperson noted that the Israeli ambassador promised to conduct an investigation.
