Kuwait: Appointment of Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem as Prime Minister

The Kuwaiti News Agency (KUNA) reported today, Thursday, that the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, appointed Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as Prime Minister, assigning him the task of proposing members for the new cabinet. The Amir accepted the resignation of the government led by Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Sabah in December, after sharply criticizing both the government and parliament, and tasked it with running affairs until a new one is formed.

The new Prime Minister was born in 1955 and previously served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs from February 2006 until his resignation in October 2011. This is the first government under Sheikh Mishal (83 years old), who ascended to power on December 16, following the death of his half-brother, the former Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, at the age of 86 after a long illness.
