Shoigu: We Have Cluster Bombs That We Haven't Used for Humanitarian Reasons Unlike Washington

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stated that by supplying cluster munitions to Kyiv, the United States is becoming involved in what it previously described as a war crime. This remark was made during a speech at the Moscow International Security Conference, which began in the Russian capital today, Tuesday.

Shoigu mentioned another humanitarian issue regarding the U.S. decision to provide Kyiv with cluster munitions, saying, "The consequences of using these weapons on civilians are known. In the past, American officials repeatedly stated that using cluster munitions constitutes a war crime. Today, Washington and its partners are committing this crime in Ukraine," noting that "this does not seem to provoke, as expected, condemnations from international humanitarian organizations."

Shoigu confirmed that under the new reality created by Washington's actions, Russia may reconsider its decision to refrain from using the cluster munitions in its arsenal. He stated, "I would like to draw attention to the fact that we also have cluster munitions. Until now, for humanitarian reasons, we have refrained from using them. However, this decision may be reconsidered."
