U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated that the United States will not tolerate attacks on its forces in the Middle East and will respond to them. Austin added that "Iran-supported forces are responsible for the ongoing attacks on U.S. military personnel, and we will take the necessary steps to protect the United States and our forces in a timely and appropriate manner."
