A team of international experts indicated on Wednesday that "a large number of prisoners held in temporary detention centers in areas occupied by Russia in southern Ukraine have been subjected to torture and sexual violations." The team stated that "among the accounts from victims they examined, 43% reported instances of torture in detention centers, and indicated sexual violence as a common method used by Russian guards." The Mobile Justice Team, formed by the law firm "Global Rights Compliance" which specializes in international humanitarian law, is collaborating with Ukrainian prosecutors addressing war crimes in the Kherson region since it was reclaimed by Ukrainian forces in November, after remaining under Russian control for more than eight months.
