The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced in a statement that a soldier was killed and four others wounded after a bomb exploded on the roadside near an army patrol north of Baghdad on Friday. The ministry added that the attack occurred in the town of Tarmiya, located 25 kilometers north of Baghdad. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, stating that it killed one soldier and injured nine others. The ministry's statement indicated that Defense Minister Thabet al-Abbasi went to the area where the incident took place and ordered an investigation. Despite the defeat of ISIS in 2017, remnants of the group have resorted to hit-and-run attacks against government forces in various parts of Iraq.
