Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced today, Wednesday, that hostages will be released in stages, noting that U.S. President Joe Biden helped improve the agreement to include more hostages held by "Hamas." Netanyahu added during a government meeting to vote on the hostage agreement that "security leaders fully support the decision, stating that the agreement will allow the army to prepare to continue fighting." During the Israeli government meeting, Netanyahu said, "The government faces a difficult decision tonight, but it is the right decision. The war continues and will continue until we achieve all our goals. Biden helped us improve the deal to include more hostages." On his part, former Israeli Defense Minister and current war cabinet member Benny Gantz stated that the agreement is a first step towards returning all hostages. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant accepted the government meeting, saying, "There is an opportunity for the outlines that will lead to the release of the captives to mature. Without military pressure, there will be no chance to return more hostages." Israel, the United States, and Qatar, which is mediating with Hamas, have been negotiating for weeks regarding the release of hostages, which will be linked to a temporary ceasefire in Gaza and the entry of more humanitarian aid.
