Death of Russian Special Forces Commander in Syria

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the death of the Russian commander in Syria a few days ago due to a bombing targeting the operations command center. The Observatory stated on Monday that the commander of the Russian special forces, a colonel, was killed on May 26 as a result of ground shelling carried out by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, which targeted the command center of the regime forces in the Al-Jab al-Ahmar axis in northern Latakia within the Putin-Erdoğan-region. According to the "Enab Baladi" website, the Budborovichi municipality in Russia reported via the VK social media site about the death of its citizen Colonel Oleg Viktorovich Pichvistey while performing his leadership duties in Syria. The municipality mentioned that the officer had participated in military operations in several countries, including Chechnya and South Ossetia, and settled in Syria in 2020, where he was in charge of the use of special forces units for the airborne high command.
