The presidency in South Africa indicated today, Tuesday, that "the country has submitted an urgent request to the International Court of Justice to consider Israel's decision to expand its military operations in Rafah and to determine whether the court needs to use its authority to prevent further violations of the rights of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip." Last month, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take all possible measures to prevent its forces from committing "genocide" against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as part of a case filed by South Africa. Israel intends to expand its ground invasion of the Gaza Strip to include the city of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians have sought refuge from the assault that has devastated a large part of the Palestinian enclave since the attack by militants from the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Israel on October 7.
