Cybercrime Prevention in Jordan Warns Girls

The Cybercrime Unit in Jordan has warned girls against saving private photos on social media applications, particularly "Snapchat." The unit, which is part of the Public Security Directorate, clarified that most of the cases reported to them have been related to Snapchat, which girls use to store their private pictures.

They added that the most prominent current scams involve impersonating bank employees and asking bank clients to update their information over the phone, emphasizing the necessity of not providing any bank information over the phone, as scammers present evidence suggesting they are bank employees.

The unit also stressed the importance of acting appropriately when faced with online blackmail by cutting off communication with the blackmailer and not responding to avoid further demands. They pointed out the need to share information only with trusted individuals and to contact the Cybercrime Unit if any cases of blackmail occur.

In conclusion, they directed a message to parents to monitor their children's and their friends' activities on social media, and to implement tracking applications, especially in online games where children have recently been increasingly exploited.
