The young Spanish international defender Alejandro Balde has extended his contract with Barcelona for 5 seasons, the Catalan club announced on Wednesday. The second place team in La Liga stated, "FC Barcelona and player Alejandro Balde have reached an agreement to renew his contract until June 30, 2028," adding, "The release clause for terminating the contract has been set at one billion euros."
The 19-year-old defender established himself last season in the left-back position, delivering performances that allowed him to push veteran Jordi Alba (34 years old) to the bench. Alba subsequently decided to leave for Inter Miami this summer to join his former teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.
Balde, whose contract was due to expire in June 2024, progressed through the youth ranks of FC Barcelona before joining the first team in the 2020-2021 season. He has worn the Spanish national team jersey in 6 international matches and has played 56 matches for Barcelona, scoring one goal and providing 6 assists.
